00:11
hi everyone this is matt bertram
00:13
uh with e-web results uh just doing some
00:16
uh interviews right now
00:18
uh mallory here i met at podfest
00:21
out in orlando the last marketing
00:23
conference before
00:25
the end of the year right uh before
00:27
everything got shut down
00:29
and uh so now we’re all stuck in our
00:31
homes
00:32
uh and you know meetings are going
00:34
virtual
00:35
and so you know we wanted to catch up
00:38
and we thought we would do it
00:40
while recording it so everybody can else
00:43
can see
00:44
uh how our businesses are being affected
00:46
and
00:47
what we’re gonna be doing and um how
00:50
maybe you should think about it as well
00:52
so mallory why don’t you introduce
00:53
yourself a little bit talk about
00:55
some of the things that you do actually
00:58
right not what you’re doing now we’ll
01:00
kind of get into that
01:01
and then a little bit about your podcast
01:04
as well i
01:05
had a chance to listen to a few of the
01:06
episodes and right now
01:08
you know you have to be centered with
01:10
everything that’s going on
01:11
and you have to be mindful so uh really
01:14
uh interested in hearing what you have
01:17
to say
01:17
cool yeah thanks for having me on i’m
01:20
excited to
01:21
virtually talk to you i think that’s the
01:23
new way of the world right now
01:25
so it’s nice and convenient that we have
01:28
this awesome podcast platform that
01:30
already exists to be able to do more of
01:32
it
01:32
so what i do in my business is i help
01:34
entrepreneurs and executives
01:36
overcome their mental barriers primarily
01:39
working with them
01:40
on their subconscious blocks so what
01:42
that means is helping people
01:44
kind of redesign the way their brain
01:46
processes information
01:48
uncovering and unpacking neural pathways
01:50
that
01:51
have a tendency to create default stress
01:54
and overwhelm patterns
01:55
and by reworking that that gives them
01:58
the ability to perform better at work
02:00
to have more clarity to decrease their
02:02
stress and especially
02:04
for businesses that are you know
02:06
shifting from solopreneur
02:08
to then leading a team leading a team is
02:10
not the same thing as just being a solo
02:12
service provider and that’s something
02:13
that a lot of business owners
02:15
uh go through like how do i make this
02:16
shift i’m in charge of
02:18
10 15 people now these are different a
02:20
different type of skill set
02:22
that i didn’t need necessarily when i
02:25
was just working more as a self-employed
02:27
entrepreneur
02:29
no absolutely like uh so my partner
02:32
um you know chris burris we’ve we’ve
02:35
grown a couple
02:36
companies together uh but he used to
02:38
make every employee
02:39
when they started with this read uh
02:42
e-myth are you familiar with the book
02:44
no i’m not okay uh i’ll look it up here
02:47
real quick but
02:48
um essentially um everyone coming in by
02:51
michael gerber
02:52
okay i i would recommend anybody that’s
02:55
kind of dealing with this sort of thing
02:56
to put it on
02:57
uh their reading list what it talks
02:59
about is the different stages of a
03:01
business
03:01
and as the business owner uh once you go
03:04
from being like
03:05
you know maybe you’re tech a technical
03:07
expert at something or you’re
03:09
you’re doing a specific skill and then
03:11
you have to add accounting you have to
03:13
have
03:13
it you have to do all like you got to
03:15
put all the hats on you got to put
03:16
janitor on right you gotta put
03:18
everything on
03:19
and and as you grow how how how to look
03:22
at the business of like when you hire a
03:24
new person
03:25
you basically go okay you’re gonna take
03:26
these five hats and here’s all those job
03:29
descriptions
03:29
and then as you grow um you keep taking
03:32
the hats off until
03:34
you build the structure of the company
03:35
so you start with the structure of the
03:37
company
03:37
and then build that out so that i think
03:39
that that is kind of that was one of the
03:41
things that i keyed into to what you
03:43
were saying
03:44
also i’m curious on like you know so
03:47
i’ve
03:47
i’ve played those little games of like
03:49
neuroplasticity
03:51
and like you know to to help kind of
03:53
train your brain or kind of it’s like a
03:55
muscle to work it out
03:56
but you were talking about some things
03:58
that um i’ve i’ve kind of worked with
04:01
some uh
04:02
it’s like celebrity therapists on of of
04:05
basically
04:06
uh it’s not counseling um it’s really
04:09
like
04:09
actual therapy right so you go back
04:12
potentially to
04:13
uh the first earliest thought that you
04:15
have and kind of figure out what was
04:17
going on there is that
04:18
is that some of the stuff you’re doing
04:19
are you kind of touching that or can you
04:21
kind of
04:21
go into a little bit more depth of maybe
04:24
um
04:25
what you’re doing with some of these
04:26
ceos and business owners yeah and i
04:28
think
04:29
the word therapy and coaching gets so
04:32
intertwined these days that people get
04:33
really confused by it and
04:35
the other part that makes it a little
04:36
tricky is that there are a lot of
04:39
high end therapists that are using coach
04:42
coaching tactics so it’s like the the
04:44
lions are really gray
04:46
um in in what that means because in the
04:49
therapy world like
04:50
it’s not the same you’re not really
04:53
supposed to be
04:55
quote-unquote looking at moving forward
04:58
steps
04:59
and in coaching that’s the goal you know
05:01
the goal for
05:02
having someone re-work help you rework
05:05
what’s going on
05:06
in your mind is to get you out of it so
05:08
that you can
05:09
lead your business and your team
05:10
effectively you know you don’t have all
05:12
the time in the world just to sit around
05:13
and talk about yourself and all these
05:15
things that happen in your life like
05:16
most of the people that i work with
05:17
they don’t even have time to like
05:19
schedule a meeting with me on the first
05:21
the first call because their lives are
05:23
very hectic and very chaotic and very
05:25
busy
05:26
that’s why they need the help that they
05:28
need because they need to figure out
05:29
why the overwhelm exists in the first
05:31
place because nobody started a business
05:34
because they want to be overwhelmed all
05:35
the time
05:36
um but yes a lot of it is going back it
05:39
starts with i take everyone through an
05:41
eight-week process and it starts with
05:42
really uncovering and unpacking
05:44
why do you think the way that you think
05:46
where does that stem from where does
05:47
that start
05:48
and uncovering that reworking that will
05:51
help shift
05:52
into later performance driven tactics
05:55
you know looking at
05:56
what is what’s your unique gift in your
05:58
business are you utilizing it i can’t
06:00
tell you how many times i talk to
06:01
business owners and they’re doing the
06:03
things that they hate
06:04
and it’s like well how why haven’t you
06:05
outsourced this yet why don’t you have
06:07
someone else on your team do this and
06:08
it’s solely because their own control
06:10
issues
06:11
are blocking it and getting in the way
06:12
so uncovering all that crap
06:14
so that you can lead effectively and
06:17
have a team that also can lead
06:18
effectively too
06:20
really really interesting can you give
06:21
me a quick testimonial maybe of
06:23
like a success story that’s recently
06:26
happened so people can
06:28
understand like how this might relate to
06:30
them
06:32
yeah so there’s a couple different
06:34
versions of people that i work with
06:36
some of those people are more in
06:39
transitional periods of like hey i just
06:41
built an agency
06:42
i built it up to seven figures but i
06:44
don’t like it i’m miserable
06:45
i don’t even know how i got myself here
06:48
and
06:48
i love the money but i don’t like what
06:51
i’m doing anymore and i feel stuck and i
06:52
don’t know how to get out of this
06:54
i end up helping a lot of people in that
06:57
market of i feel really really stuck
07:00
because that happens a lot in
07:01
entrepreneurship you buy all these
07:03
products and all these things that tell
07:05
you this is how to scale you do it it
07:06
works you scale
07:08
you make money and then you sit around
07:10
looking at the walls going
07:11
this isn’t what i wanted so that’s a
07:14
really good example of somebody that i
07:15
helped trying to figure out
07:17
really what are the reasons that you
07:20
created something that you don’t want in
07:22
the first place
07:23
doing the deep work to rework that so
07:25
that you can then start
07:26
a different maybe not a whole brand new
07:29
business but this person that i’m
07:30
thinking of as an example of this
07:32
he has a different business now he’s
07:34
making great money he’s replaced his
07:36
income but it’s not the same business
07:38
that he had before and he’s really happy
07:40
he’s spending time with his family and
07:41
all this stuff
07:42
well a lot of the reasons that he was
07:46
stuck
07:46
in that seven figure agency were not
07:49
actually tactical
07:51
they were all mindset related that we’re
07:53
relating to this feeling
07:55
of i’m stuck and i can’t get out uh-huh
07:58
and that was creating
07:59
parallelization and action can you can
08:02
you go a little bit deeper without
08:03
giving away
08:04
who it is or whatever of like what what
08:06
what broke
08:07
what changed what what transformation
08:10
happened
08:11
to to to have them be able to either let
08:14
that go or sell it or whatever and then
08:16
move
08:17
uh to something else yeah well a lot of
08:19
it was connected for this particular
08:21
person
08:21
a lot of it was connected to scarcity in
08:25
in opportunity and it’s interesting that
08:27
that’s
08:28
kind of what i just said because that’s
08:29
what’s showing up right now too
08:31
a lot of people are experiencing their
08:33
old patterns
08:35
right now their old trauma their old
08:37
stories their old things that they have
08:39
not worked through and it’s being
08:40
heightened right now and then you’ve got
08:42
15 hours of media intake and then you’re
08:44
just left at the end of the day going
08:46
everything’s falling apart and i don’t
08:47
know how to take a step forward
08:49
so in this particular case with this
08:51
person i really helped him
08:53
uncover some some past experiences that
08:57
happened in his life and when i say that
08:59
i think everyone has a tendency to
09:02
immediately go to oh this person must
09:04
have been abused this person must have
09:06
had like a horrible childhood
09:08
that’s really not always the case
09:10
sometimes people grow up in households
09:12
where they actually were not taught
09:16
emotional intelligence tactical kind of
09:19
how to work through their own emotions
09:21
their parents didn’t know how to express
09:22
emotions so
09:23
everything’s bottled inside and until
09:25
you get through that first emotional
09:28
processing step you’re gonna get stuck
09:31
you’re not gonna think with clarity
09:32
you’re not gonna know how to then shift
09:34
into the action because as
09:35
any business owner knows it’s not all
09:37
just emotional stuff you have to take
09:39
action you have to do the work you have
09:40
to move forward
09:41
but if your thoughts are kind of
09:44
paralyzing you
09:46
your soft skills actually need to be
09:47
addressed first so that you can then
09:49
implement the hard skills that need to
09:51
be done
09:51
so with this gentleman we really looked
09:53
and uncovered
09:55
uh what those soft skills what the
09:57
blocks were
09:58
on that processing and a lot of it was
10:01
centered back to
10:03
scarcity and fear of the future and if i
10:06
shift and if i pivot like is it going to
10:07
work
10:08
is it is this all just a
10:11
a lucky joke that i have a million
10:13
dollar business
10:14
and that it just happened to fall into
10:16
my lap like is that some kind
10:18
of like freak joke that just happened or
10:19
can i really do this again
10:22
man yeah that i can i can think back to
10:24
kind of
10:25
uh my my kind of
10:28
journey so far was um you know
10:32
pretty crazy and um the thing that i
10:34
learned more than anything else is i
10:36
i thought once i graduated college you
10:39
know the
10:39
the income earning and and uh the growth
10:42
within
10:42
a company or building your own company
10:44
is going to be linear right
10:46
and um you know i i i in my kind of
10:49
mid-20s built a million dollar business
10:52
uh and sold it and i was like on top of
10:54
the world
10:55
and then i started another company like
10:58
thinking i was superman and i
10:59
completely failed and lost a ton of
11:01
money you know and then like got
11:03
it got so like down that you know i was
11:06
like oh maybe i should go like work at
11:07
starbucks
11:08
you know what i mean like like and i was
11:10
like how did i go from
11:12
you know like multi-million dollar
11:14
yearly business
11:15
to like hey i think i want to work at
11:17
starbucks and then like
11:19
getting through that and then like you
11:22
know grow growing another company but i
11:24
was done with that old
11:25
kind of industry right i was like okay
11:27
i’d been there i’d hit that
11:29
like i don’t have the energy to rebuild
11:30
something but i but i could build
11:32
something new
11:33
like you know there’s a lot of things
11:35
that we deal with and i think that
11:36
we also develop coping mechanisms right
11:39
and they do
11:40
come from early childhood uh
11:44
if you if you really think back to like
11:46
your earliest moment when you had that
11:47
fear
11:47
or something like that you can key in on
11:50
what that is and if you can
11:51
address that then you can open up a lot
11:55
of different things
11:56
um so yeah no this i i think you’re
11:59
you’re you’re uh operating in a really
12:03
interesting space tell me a little bit
12:05
more how you kind of
12:06
got into that yeah for me it actually
12:09
all
12:10
it all started with some health problems
12:12
that i was having uh back in 2014 and
12:14
that
12:15
kind of it was just trickle effects of
12:16
just like
12:18
i i was experiencing four months of
12:20
these symptoms of health issues i have a
12:22
food intolerance
12:23
and at the time uh that was a little
12:25
harder to uncover than it is now i know
12:28
it’s only been like six years but the
12:29
world’s
12:30
changed drastically in six years so it
12:33
took me a long time to figure out what
12:34
was going on with my body
12:35
and in that time i started learning more
12:38
about health and wellness i was working
12:39
for an engineering firm
12:41
and i really wanted to just uncover and
12:44
understand
12:44
like how my system was working and what
12:46
was going on there
12:48
and i decided to get a health coaching
12:51
certification and that in a matter of a
12:54
couple months
12:54
led to oh wait a minute there’s all this
12:56
stuff about how the brain processes
12:58
information and uh the subconscious and
13:01
the conscious and all these other things
13:03
and there’s
13:04
a vast world of certifications and
13:08
coaching that i didn’t know about
13:09
and i started a health coaching business
13:12
and that quickly led to
13:14
i can’t even make this up people
13:16
scheduling on
13:17
my calendar as promoting myself as a
13:20
health coach but
13:21
asking for like business support and
13:22
mindset work
13:24
because it was intertwined into the
13:25
message in my marketing that i was
13:27
sharing
13:28
and i just didn’t fight it i went with
13:29
it i rolled with it and
13:31
quickly it became apparent to me like
13:33
okay well this whole health thing
13:35
led you to this next step uh but this is
13:37
really what you’re supposed to be doing
13:39
so that’s kind of how it went so so okay
13:42
so
13:43
to to kind of bring that up to like
13:44
what’s going on today
13:46
right and um you know right now as this
13:50
is
13:50
being recorded um we just went into
13:52
lockdown
13:53
uh here in houston okay like everything
13:55
non-essential business is getting shut
13:57
down
13:58
you know we were in kind of the social
14:00
distancing for
14:01
you know like 10 days or something like
14:03
that and there was a huge impact on
14:04
business
14:05
um you know one of the things i started
14:08
to see is clients just
14:09
um didn’t know what to do like the sky
14:12
is falling or i don’t know what to do
14:13
but like cut
14:14
all expenses right like i don’t know
14:16
what’s going on so let me like hit the
14:17
brakes on everything
14:19
um and you know you know we
14:22
we saw a couple customers reduce
14:24
services which i think
14:26
they were they were being smart about
14:28
kind of cash flow but others like
14:29
completely stopped
14:30
right and like we’re in we’re you know
14:33
we’re in a campaign
14:34
like we’re in a three-month campaign
14:35
we’re you know uh coming to the close of
14:38
it um there’s a bunch of things that
14:40
we need to do to wrap up this campaign
14:42
and and so we’ve been working on this
14:43
for a couple months
14:45
and just shut it down like that’s not
14:47
that’s a knee-jerk reaction
14:49
to what’s going on um you know i do a
14:51
lot of stuff
14:52
in digital marketing and like seo
14:55
and i’m i’m tell like everything that’s
14:58
going on
14:59
okay right now what i will tell you is
15:02
google’s not going to change their
15:04
algorithm okay
15:06
based upon what’s happening right and so
15:09
um
15:09
you know we we as a business are looking
15:12
at okay who’s gonna
15:13
get hit the hardest right restaurants uh
15:16
anywhere that you have to go out
15:17
and and and engage with somebody
15:19
directly right um now construction is
15:21
the backbone
15:22
of the economy that’s not slowing down
15:24
people are in you know big contracts
15:26
there
15:27
um and and there’s backlog and all that
15:29
but we’re looking at businesses
15:31
across the spectrum uh and we’re seeing
15:33
uh what’s changing we’re looking at the
15:35
search data we’re seeing what’s changing
15:37
and so
15:37
what’s interesting i was even reading an
15:39
article about facebook advertising
15:41
facebook advertising
15:42
um it’s really cheap right now really
15:44
cheap but usage has gone way up right
15:46
and so um about a month ago i think i
15:49
was a little
15:50
too early and you you really uh gotta
15:53
get in the mindset of what um
15:55
you know your customer or your prospect
15:58
uh perspective customer
16:00
is looking at and and i was talking
16:01
about hey this
16:03
is really a great time as ad spends
16:06
going down
16:07
to to build your uh presence online to
16:10
um build your personal brand depending
16:13
on kind of where you’re at and what
16:14
journey you’re on
16:15
um now is an opportunity because of the
16:17
screen time going up to get in front of
16:19
people and share your message
16:20
whether it’s when this thing you know
16:23
recovers which
16:24
was people were talking about it being a
16:26
u-shape like everything was going to
16:27
bounce back
16:28
i think it’s probably going to be more
16:29
prolonged than that based on you know
16:31
uh what i’m seeing in in kind of the day
16:34
they’re saying
16:35
you know easter’s when um they’re gonna
16:37
try to open up parts of the country but
16:39
i
16:39
i think that that’s probably too um uh
16:43
uh positive like a positive of outlook
16:45
like i think that this
16:46
i think people need to understand how
16:48
they’re gonna operate in this
16:49
environment
16:50
and i think that as
16:53
people think that like understand that
16:56
they’re going to think well how do i
16:57
reach people
16:59
like it’s through it’s through digital
17:01
right it’s through social media it’s
17:03
through all these different platforms
17:04
and can your business function in that
17:06
environment and so those are some of the
17:08
things
17:08
that that were providing consulting to
17:12
existing clients and
17:13
and the things that i’m getting asked
17:14
and uh looking at like how do we make
17:16
that shift like or businesses that were
17:18
completely traditional
17:20
that aren’t going to make it and they
17:21
know it or are are going hey we we need
17:24
a new website or
17:24
or what have you um i’m curious kind of
17:27
what you’re seeing with your clients and
17:29
where that mindset
17:30
is right now that’s a
17:34
fantastic question uh clients right now
17:38
are seemingly
17:39
great i’ve actually had a couple then i
17:41
kid you now and i say this that are like
17:43
i’m really glad that i did
17:44
all of my like crap work like up until
17:46
this point because i know i would have
17:48
reacted different to the situation had i
17:49
not addressed a lot of the stuff that
17:51
i’ve been working on over the last
17:52
couple months which is validating you
17:54
know in some degree it’s like yes
17:56
good i’m glad that you see that because
17:58
that goes to show and i’m sharing that
18:00
specifically
18:01
to shed light to anybody that’s
18:04
listening to this that goes to show how
18:06
much
18:07
our emotional response takes over
18:10
our decision-making process and i think
18:13
you know i’m a people
18:14
person more than anything like i’m a
18:15
people person and that is those are the
18:17
patterns that i’m seeing right now
18:19
people are reacting out of fear and out
18:21
of scarcity i don’t know
18:22
what expectation of of
18:25
completely directed to fear they think
18:28
is going to happen over the next 90 days
18:30
well unless they know how to work
18:31
through their own fears
18:33
that are coming up and i don’t mean you
18:35
know getting your journal out and
18:37
writing for
18:38
15 hours i mean like really quick
18:40
effective understanding of
18:42
how do i know what’s fear and what’s not
18:44
so that i can make
18:45
clear effective decisions that are good
18:48
and healthy for my business for my
18:49
employees for my clients for my family
18:51
moving forward
18:52
and how do i also know when i’m making
18:56
decisions that are maybe not the best
18:58
but i’m doing it as a reaction
19:00
to the emotions that are coming up that
19:02
i don’t know how to handle and that i
19:04
don’t know how to shift through
19:05
and i think that more than anything is
19:07
telling us right now
19:09
these soft skills you know especially in
19:12
the entrepreneurial space
19:13
most people and i’m very aware of this
19:15
it’s not a good or bad thing most people
19:17
want to talk about the hard skills how
19:19
do you do how do you do the tactical
19:21
stuff how do you put your systems
19:22
together how do you market how do you do
19:24
this
19:24
well maybe it’s time that the word soft
19:27
skills like
19:28
has a new name altogether because that
19:31
is
19:32
what’s going to break a lot of
19:33
businesses right now it’s not
19:35
the lack of hard skills it’s people not
19:37
knowing how to
19:38
work through the low times because the
19:41
reality of this
19:42
is in in my opinion and i’m only 30
19:44
years old this is gonna happen
19:46
ten more times before i die in my
19:48
business there’s gonna be downwards
19:50
there’s gonna be periods of time
19:52
where unexpected things show up how do i
19:54
make it through that
19:56
as a business owner do i have reserves
19:57
put out do i have
19:59
the ability to see opportunity in hard
20:01
stressful situations
20:03
do i have the ability to see a hundred
20:05
days out
20:06
not a hundred hours out we’re stuck
20:09
in a little bit of the fishbowl
20:11
mechanism right now and everyone’s just
20:13
seeing like
20:14
what happened yesterday and what
20:15
happened tomorrow and there’s not a
20:17
clear focus on what does this actually
20:18
look like a year from now
20:20
and people are getting really lost in
20:21
that yeah
20:23
i think that um you know
20:26
we’re talking about soft skills like
20:28
when you’re saying that you’re you’re
20:29
talking about
20:30
and i i you know from listening to a few
20:33
of your podcasts
20:34
like you know like you need to be really
20:35
aware and you need to be really mindful
20:38
of like looking at the bigger picture of
20:40
what’s going on and not being
20:42
you know so narrow uh to what’s
20:44
happening but i’m also seeing
20:46
you know people um like like
20:50
these like even on linkedin like the
20:52
these
20:53
messages that people are sending are are
20:55
not being sensitive
20:57
to what’s happening they’re they’re
20:59
they’re
21:00
they haven’t tweaked the message and i
21:02
think right now it’s all about
21:03
connection
21:04
okay like i think it’s i i think it
21:06
always been about connection right i
21:08
think it’s always always always been
21:10
about connection
21:11
um but people are getting too caught up
21:13
in like the systems or what they’re
21:15
doing
21:16
and you know they they like manage churn
21:19
or whatever
21:20
like i mean like in today’s world
21:24
more than anything else we’re so
21:25
interconnected like your different
21:27
social media platforms
21:29
you know like you used to be oh here’s
21:31
my personal life here’s my business like
21:32
you’re one person
21:33
uh you know offline online um
21:36
your business also offline online or on
21:39
offline online whatever hand motions are
21:42
right
21:42
right like everything’s the same like
21:44
it’s all interconnected right
21:46
and and it’s all about connecting with
21:48
customers and giving them
21:50
um like whatever they need or want or
21:53
like why why are they searching for your
21:54
service right
21:55
and so we’re we’re we’re talking to
21:57
clients and it’s like
21:59
you got to change your message you got
22:00
to change in
22:02
in today’s world with everything that’s
22:04
going on with the social distance to
22:05
being at home
22:06
why do you uh why do people need what
22:09
you’re doing
22:10
right like i i was on the phone with a
22:13
com
22:13
a company of ours uh that’s in canada
22:16
and they’re a cleaning company
22:17
okay a cleaning company okay
22:20
like a commercial cleaning company and
22:23
clients are
22:24
are cutting down services stopping
22:27
services
22:27
everything and they they were in kind of
22:30
free fall
22:31
and they were they were concerned and i
22:34
i was like
22:36
calm down what do people
22:39
need right now okay disinfectant
22:42
you know what i mean like there’s always
22:44
an answer like like like
22:46
a work through like exactly what you’re
22:48
saying calm down so that
22:49
you can see clearly what opportunity
22:53
is i mean there was a huge business
22:54
opportunity in my opinion
22:56
right like and and like how do you
22:58
leverage stores hospitals i mean they
23:00
need extra people right now
23:02
well they need clean no they need they
23:04
need like commercial cleaning services
23:06
like i was like
23:07
you know er facilities um or urgent care
23:10
facilities
23:11
like they need to step up their
23:13
disinfectant right
23:14
i mean because you’re going am i sick
23:16
enough or is my kids sick enough
23:18
to should i actually risk going in there
23:20
and then catching something
23:22
else or kova 19 versus just
23:25
waiting it out at home right like so
23:27
like there’s there’s also
23:29
there’s just all different kind of ways
23:31
to look at it and ways to think about it
23:33
and go how
23:34
how do we operate in this environment
23:36
like if if
23:37
other people or so and that’s the thing
23:39
too is if you look at what other people
23:40
are doing
23:42
there’s a lot of different kind of
23:43
opportunities i think to look at things
23:45
but i’m
23:46
i’m looking at this going the world’s
23:49
changing
23:50
you have to maybe pivot your business
23:52
you have to think a little bit
23:53
differently
23:54
plan for the worst also you know hope
23:57
for the best
23:58
and how how do you find some healthy
24:01
medium
24:02
in there right and like i mean can you
24:04
share maybe
24:06
uh with me some of uh the things
24:09
of people that are well grounded that
24:11
are centered
24:12
um that you’ve coached what are some of
24:15
the
24:16
really thoughtful changes that they’re
24:18
making in their business right now to
24:20
sustain themselves maybe
24:21
well the first thing that i really
24:23
touched on with everyone within the last
24:24
week was
24:26
have you checked in with your clients
24:28
because it’s really really easy
24:30
and the answer actually was not yes to
24:32
all of them and that’s why i’m bringing
24:34
it up because i know there’s people
24:35
listening to this that still haven’t
24:36
done what they have the ability to do to
24:38
check in with their clients
24:40
it’s really easy when chaos starts to
24:42
stir up to just get in your zone
24:44
and kind of take a step back and get in
24:46
your seat and feel like you’re going to
24:47
ride the wave out
24:48
but people are feeling whatever it is
24:51
that they’re feeling
24:52
it doesn’t really matter you have the
24:54
ability
24:55
to show up for them in a time like this
24:57
so maybe that’s an extra touch point
25:00
like have you called them this week i
25:02
mean
25:03
i don’t know how many client you know
25:04
you could have a 500 clients listening
25:06
to this but
25:07
have you had your team call and check in
25:09
with them you know everyone’s getting
25:11
the email
25:12
but have you actually spoken with your
25:14
clients i think that
25:16
is like the number one thing everyone
25:18
can do because we have to look at what
25:19
can i do
25:20
well the one thing you can do is talk to
25:22
your people that are already paying you
25:23
like let’s start there get give me like
25:27
if you could think of the top five
25:28
things right the
25:30
like in in kind of two minutes or less
25:32
give me the top five things
25:34
man you did not prepare me for this all
25:35
right no
25:37
it’s gotta it’s gotta be it’s gotta be
25:40
what’s on my forefront
25:42
yeah like you can’t you can’t prepare
25:43
for these things
25:45
you you’re no one’s prepared right for
25:48
for what’s happening
25:49
and so tell me what you would think
25:53
the top five things that people can do
25:55
to take action now
25:57
to to help get in the right mindset to
26:00
to help their business
26:01
you know just kind of share share some
26:03
advice with everyone
26:05
the first one before i’d even have
26:07
people check in with their clients
26:08
or recommend that the first one is to to
26:11
look at what story you’re telling
26:12
yourself
26:13
and that’s a that is a simple
26:14
recognition to what story am i telling
26:17
myself about my reality
26:18
right now and not to bring this into
26:20
like woo land but i really mean like
26:22
looking at am i living under a
26:25
microscope that
26:26
everything’s going to fall apart because
26:27
if i am it’s time to get myself out of
26:29
that seat
26:30
so that i can take action and show up
26:33
for people
26:33
and if i don’t feel like i have the
26:35
confidence to
26:37
lead myself right now i’m doing it for
26:38
the people that are paying me and i’m
26:40
doing
26:40
it for the people that need it you know
26:42
whatever it is that you need to do
26:44
what story you need to be telling
26:46
yourself to shift you out of that
26:48
panic state that you might be feeling
26:50
start there because
26:51
if you don’t work through that emotion
26:53
you’re gonna end up projecting it
26:55
all over everybody that you are talking
26:57
to on the phone or over
26:59
email messenger linkedin whatever over
27:01
the coming weeks
27:02
work through your own fear that’s step
27:04
one i think for everybody and that’s
27:06
that’s all the time not just right now
27:08
um the second thing is what we just kind
27:09
of talked about check in with your
27:11
clients check in with the people that
27:13
you are already they’re they’re already
27:16
they have your trust they’re paying you
27:18
they’re giving you money
27:19
do your duty as a leader and check in
27:22
with them and see how they’re doing
27:23
um the third thing would be
27:28
opportunity is endless and i don’t think
27:31
that this is a time
27:32
to go and re-create your business
27:36
because i think there is a little bit of
27:38
a dangerous territory in that
27:39
but how can you use the skills that you
27:42
already have
27:43
to do what you’re doing that and look at
27:46
what other markets can i help right now
27:48
that maybe i haven’t given myself an
27:50
opportunity
27:51
before to see in my line of work
27:54
that i could reach out to right now so
27:57
get creative and start thinking
27:58
outside the box a little bit the fourth
28:01
one is it’s never been easier to have a
28:03
conversation than it is right now
28:04
every single person on the planet is
28:06
feeling similar feelings emotions we’re
28:08
all
28:09
i mean we’re going on lockdown in 24
28:11
hours you and i are about to both be
28:12
kind of stuck in our house not able to
28:14
leave it has never been
28:16
easier to have a conversation with
28:18
someone as it is right now and that
28:19
doesn’t mean
28:20
go sell your service and three three
28:22
little text messages
28:24
but how can you truly connect with
28:28
people it’s
28:30
really easy right now to connect with
28:32
people
28:33
utilize that get out of your comfort
28:35
zone
28:36
i would say the fifth thing is contact
28:38
maori to get in the right mindset
28:41
all right and so how how can people
28:45
find out more about um what
28:48
you’re putting out there in the world
28:50
and if they want to connect with you
28:52
get some help tell me tell me about how
28:54
they can connect with you
28:56
abundantlyclearpodcast.com is the
28:57
easiest way to get to my website you can
28:58
just shoot me a message
29:00
um on the contact page and i actually
29:02
have a separate calendar link right now
29:04
because i
29:04
i get it some people are very stuck in
29:07
fear
29:08
and they they don’t know how to move
29:09
forward i’ve opened up some time on my
29:11
calendar to try and just give
29:13
time to people that are like i don’t
29:15
know what to do
29:16
um those that need it feel free to reach
29:19
out happy to give you
29:20
some time to do that because i i think
29:23
you know a year from now we’re going to
29:25
look back on this there’s going to be a
29:26
lot of positive things that came from it
29:28
it might feel really heavy right now and
29:30
i do still have a lot of empathy
29:32
and and can understand a lot of people
29:34
are losing their jobs a lot of people
29:36
are
29:37
going through really hard times but i
29:39
know this about myself
29:41
the two hardest times in my life and
29:42
they were hard like i have
29:44
i’ve had some two really really
29:46
traumatic times in my life
29:48
looking back they were the best things
29:50
that ever could have happened to me
29:52
i wasn’t able to see it in the moment
29:54
when it was going on
29:55
but my life wouldn’t be where it is
29:56
today right now if it were not
29:58
for those two things man mallory i i
30:01
totally agree
30:02
um send me that link i’ll i’ll share it
30:04
when uh i share this podcast
30:07
i probably need to get on there too to
30:09
see what’s going on
30:11
in my head um maybe we record it
30:14
and just let everybody like just like
30:16
open up like
30:18
yeah here’s here’s what a coaching
30:20
session looks like like i’ll share
30:22
all my you know stuff that i got going
30:24
on it might be fun i think that
30:27
you know um being being genuine and
30:29
being real
30:30
um is uh when i mean so so i
30:33
in my book so i i got a book out there i
30:36
don’t i don’t talk about it as much but
30:38
right now i think people should probably
30:39
be building their brand
30:41
um but i talk about people who want to
30:43
do business with people they know
30:44
like and trust right and so uh also on
30:47
social media
30:48
like you know there’s a lot of companies
30:50
out there that do like social media
30:51
marketing and stuff like that
30:52
and there’s not a lot of engagement
30:54
since uh facebook changed its algorithm
30:56
on facebook
30:57
people have moved over to like linkedin
30:58
and tick tock and some things like that
31:01
but um like the posts that are genuine
31:04
of what’s going on at your company of
31:06
people that you help like
31:08
like that’s what people want to see they
31:09
want to see what what’s the day-to-day
31:11
right they want to see what’s going on
31:12
they want to see what’s real and i think
31:14
that that’s so important because
31:16
i i get a lot of times that people go
31:18
hey you know i i’ve been kind of
31:20
listening to some of the stuff that
31:22
you’ve been putting out
31:23
and i and i connect with what you’re
31:24
saying and i connect with who you are
31:26
and i feel like i know you and like i
31:28
want to do business with you
31:29
right right like that that is that is
31:32
that is
31:33
you know one of the things that that i
31:35
find and and moving
31:37
into kind of the digital space from um
31:39
what i was doing before
31:41
that’s all i was trying to do anyway
31:43
right like like if you’re
31:44
if you’re doing any kind of sales or you
31:47
know you have any kind of business or
31:48
service you’re trying to get your
31:49
message out there
31:50
of like hey this is what i offer it’s
31:52
quality you know
31:53
you know i’m gonna take care of you like
31:55
all these sort of things that people are
31:56
putting out
31:57
but like there there’s there’s not that
32:00
human connection
32:01
right and um through through video
32:04
um through voice um through
32:07
through social media like that’s the way
32:09
to connect with people today
32:11
and if everybody’s sitting in their home
32:12
on their screen whether it’s
32:14
you know a big screen tv to their phone
32:16
um they’re
32:17
they’re they’re searching through stuff
32:19
so it’s it is an absolute great time to
32:22
connect with people
32:23
looking at you know okay this will end
32:25
right like this will end
32:27
and when that ends what what what does
32:29
everything look like then
32:30
and can we do anything to pivot a little
32:33
bit of
32:33
operating in this environment right so
32:37
um you know it’s about shifting not
32:39
paralyzing like everything that you’re
32:41
saying you know
32:42
i’ve had so many people ask me should i
32:44
stop selling is it rude to sell right
32:46
now it’s like no
32:46
but you need to just be aware of how
32:49
you’re doing it
32:50
your business doesn’t just stop yeah
32:53
like business doesn’t just need to stop
32:55
like if business just stops like
32:58
that doesn’t make any sense but
33:00
everything that you’re saying right now
33:01
how are you actually connecting
33:03
if anything it’s enhancing our ability
33:05
to look at how we’re marketing ourselves
33:07
and how we’re really running our
33:08
business
33:09
oh i love that i love that this is the
33:12
this is the opportunity to really look
33:15
in the mirror
33:16
and and see what we’re doing and enhance
33:19
how how we’re presenting ourselves to
33:21
the world how
33:23
how we’re viewing the world ourselves
33:25
right like that positive mindset
33:27
um i love that i would love to just in
33:29
there and
33:31
uh have to have you on again and it was
33:33
great
33:34
uh connecting with you is there anything
33:36
else is there anything else
33:38
that we haven’t covered that you want to
33:39
share because i want to make sure that
33:41
you you have the opportunity to like
33:43
what’s what’s the maybe the final word
33:45
that you would leave everybody with
33:47
uh i mean just to just to zoom out and i
33:50
know that might seem a little cliche
33:51
but just remember like i i guarantee you
33:54
every single person that’s listening to
33:56
this has been through something harder
33:57
in their life
33:58
but they’re here listening to this
34:00
podcast and that’s telling that you’re
34:02
gonna get through this
34:03
like no matter what it brings to your
34:06
life maybe it’s harder
34:07
than some other people you know but just
34:10
the fact that you know yourself you’re
34:11
resilient you’ve been through something
34:13
harder
34:13
that gives you proof that you’re gonna
34:15
be fine i love that
34:17
all right well thank you so much thanks
34:20
for having me
34:21
all right bye now
