Google's Local Sponsored Listing is a paid feature that adds a yellow highlighted sponsor label to a business's Google local map result to make it stand out. The cost is $25 per month. At the time of this episode it was being piloted in Houston and San Jose.
Forwarding domains to a main website is not black hat, but Google will likely detect the forwarded domains as duplicate content and place them in the supplemental index. A better approach is to build separate sites with original content that link back to the main site.
According to a Google sales representative discussed in this episode, Google local listings receive approximately a 5% click-through rate on average. The sponsored listing is designed to increase that rate, but the representative could not provide a specific number for the uplift.
Using one profile per page prevents goal tracking, such as measuring funnel completions or thank-you page visits, because navigating between pages registers as a bounce. A single profile for the whole site allows Google Analytics to follow users page by page and track goals properly.
