Google merged Google Places pages into Google+ Local pages, requiring local businesses to update listings with matched email addresses, local phone numbers, and complete images to maintain SEO visibility in Maps and mobile search.
Google plus local pages are being integrated into the Google search, Google maps, and Google mobile.

Google converted all existing Google Places pages into Google+ Local pages. These new pages are indexed and integrated into Google Search, Google Maps, and Google Mobile, making them more important for local SEO than the old Places pages, which were not indexed.
If you already have a verified Places page, keep the information current and upload as many images as possible. If you also create a Google+ Local page, use the exact same email address as your Places account so data carries over correctly during Google's migration rollout.
Use your real company name without stuffing keywords into the title, choose keyword-rich categories, include a local area code phone number for your target city, link to your contact or locations page instead of your homepage, and upload as many images as possible to complete the listing.
At the time of this episode, Google had not yet released a merge feature. Businesses with both a Google+ business page and a Google+ Local page had to maintain them separately, while a Foursquare check-in, for example, could only appear on the Local page and not the business page.
Google plus local pages are being integrated into the Google search, Google maps, and Google mobile. And so, um, this is, those three places right there are where you really want to be if you're a local business.
