We finally discuss Search Engine Optimization in Houston Video. The most popular Pay Per Click Houston podcast on iTunes. E-Webstyle provides SEO in Houston .

Questions this episode answers

Should I do keyword research before on-page SEO?

Yes. The hosts say to identify the correct keywords first, then use that data to do your on-page work, covering titles, headers, cross-linking, content, and navigation structure. They argue 90% of sites can reach their goals with just these SEO basics done in that order.

Why should a business do social media marketing for SEO?

Having Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages creates more ways for Google to find a business. The hosts also note that Google Plus activity like plus ones and circle adds directly helps SEO, and YouTube videos further reinforce overall SEO efforts.

How does eWebStyle approach building a social media campaign?

They first determine the client's goals, whether product exposure, branding, or service showcase, then choose the right platforms. They also ensure consistent branding across all profiles and handle ongoing posting, since most business owners do not have time to stay consistently social.

How much time do people spend on Facebook versus Google per day?

According to statistics cited in the episode, people spend about 33 minutes a day on Facebook and about 10 minutes a day on Google, which is one reason the hosts recommend Facebook as the lead example for starting a social media marketing campaign.

In their words

Social media is really a digital word of mouth, if you will. Exactly. It's the same concept that people give them referrals and sharing news face-to-face. Instead, they do it click-to-click.

Charles Lewis

In order to take advantage of a social media campaign, you've got to be social. And if you're a business owner and you don't have time to do it, you need to find somebody else who can.

Hi, and welcome to the SEO Podcast, Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing. My name's Chris Burris, owner of eWebStyle. I'm Charles Lewis Show Internet Marketing Specialist. You are watching and or listening to the most popular SEO podcast on iTunes. We're probably the most popular SEO podcast on Ustream as well. Yeah. Can't imagine there was that. Period. How about that? Most popular SEO podcast, period. Internationally known throughout the microphone. All right. That's what you're supposed to do. That's just scary, right? This is podcast number 141. As always, we have a tip from our previous podcast, which I made up this morning. And let's see. It is when doing SEO, start with on-page basics only after you have identified the correct keywords. Yeah, definitely want to make sure you do your keyword research first. Figure out who you're targeting, what they're searching, and then take that data and do your on-page. Maximize your on-page. Make sure you do all your titles, your headers, your cross-linking, your content and navigation structure, and all of the things that encompass SEO basics. Do that first. Yeah. In fact, we've been seeing lots of articles how people are saying, oh, the SEO basics are useless and the SEO basics are a thing of the past and all this. And the reality is, is I still think 90% of the people out there who need to do SEO can actually accomplish what they want to accomplish with just the SEO basics. So do that first. And then you can get into more complex things. We're actually going to talk about social media marketing today a little bit. You know, there are all sorts of other things that you can get involved in. Do the basics first. Let me tell you why the basics still apply. Because when you look at the search results page, the search engine results page for the natural listings, those titles that you see are the page titles for the website. That is basics. That snippet that you see of content that comes from the meta description, that's your

basics. And so people say, you know, they have different views and stuff about doing the basics and not doing the basics. My synopsis is do the basics. Do it. Start there. Yeah. Absolutely. Remember, we are your friendly, local, neighborhood, top position snatchers. That was out of tune. Where our mantra is do not be a deuce. Yeah, don't be a deuce. It's not a good look. Remember, right now, and we know you guys are all techno geeks. So out there, tweet, Facebook, something right now, sitting at your computer, pull out your iPhone, iPad, Android device. Talk about Google Nexus. Google Nexus. Oh, yeah. You got a new Droid phone, too. Yeah. I've got my Galaxy S2. That's pretty cool. Man, the screen is killer. I decided to go with the white. I was like, you know, let's do something a little different this time. So I'm pretty happy with it. And there's a cool new app that I've been trying to convince people to use, which has not been always easy, which is Voxer. Go check it out. Yeah. So get on your device. Hashtag SEO Podcast 141. And then tag us in it, at eWebStyle. And you know what I've been doing? Even though Facebook hasn't really incorporated hashtags and stuff like that, I carry them over into Facebook anyway. Because officially, they're going to have to. They're going to have to figure out a way to simulate things that people are talking about that are related. Make them more searchable. You're right. Make them more searchable. And they're related. If you're on the other side of the globe and you hashtag SEO Podcast 141 and one of our other listeners does the same thing, that is going to be a great way for them to meet each other, comment about what we're talking about, and things like that. So let's go, Facebook. Cool. Remember, you can stalk us. You can haunt us. You can scare us. Yeah, I'm going to get my swag right here. You probably can't scare me, but you can try.

Facebook.com slash eWebStyle. Twitter.com slash eWebStyle. YouTube.com slash eWebStyle. Podcast at e-WebStyle.com. All right, a little bit of news. The iPod actually launched today. They were talking about people. Not paid. You can get them, going out and purchasing them. The lines haven't been crazy. Unlike China, there have been no arrests. I don't know. Or killings. Another one is, I thought this was cool. But first off, because I had never heard of it, and now we're signed up and we probably won't use it. Yammer, the CEO of Yammer here, offers $25,000 signing bonus to Yahoo employees, right? Hold on. Yammer offers $25,000 signing bonus to Yahoo employees. So leave Yahoo and come over here and we'll give you $25,000. You got 60 days to do it, right? In the next two months. And the premise is, apparently Yahoo is now really using their, they're becoming what's called patent trolls. So they have these patents and apparently like half of the patents would shut down Facebook in its entirety. And then every other social and probably blogging aspect of the web. Yeah, didn't they just try to sue, I was reading this the other day, earlier this week. Yahoo was suing Facebook for, yeah, patent, yeah. Yeah, being able to show ads based on who the person is, right? And so, frankly, I'm kind of a big IP person. I believe if you created the intellectual property, if you went through the process and actually acquired the intellectual property, then you have the right to go after people for that stuff. So I, I don't know, you know, patent. I feel like, use it. There's one thing to create it. Put it into practice. Yeah. You know, put it, if you're using it and actively using it, then okay, you have a leg to stand on. But don't, I can create a thousand ideas. Yeah. And then hopefully one of them I can sue Google, Facebook for. Yeah, so, yeah, use it. Get to work with it. Got a little, I got a little bit of news for

you. News for me. I see S is coming to the Nexus. Ooh. So you're going to have Ice Cream Sandwich. Fancy. And this part of the program is sponsored by Google Nexus. Eventually they're going to pay me for saying that. All right, so on Facebook, we're actually running a contest. It's not going to be for much longer. Go out and check it. You're supposed to fill in the blank. It's supposed to be SEO is to bleh as Facebook is to bleh. And I got one from Lori Doucette Alexander. It is SEO is to your website's popularity with search engines as Facebook is to a 13-year-old girl's popularity with the cool girls. Okay. I thought that was pretty good. I love that commercial where the guy was like, I can't afford a diet, so I hired the popular girls. That's gross. That's gross. You do. Ew. That commercial was awesome. And I felt them because I have been there in the refrigerator late night. And ooh, and he looked like he wanted to say, yes, I am going to eat it. Yeah, exactly. I'm going to eat it anyway. Did you have another one that you wanted? Kicking Lizard has one. Well, I didn't print it, but Kicking Lizard was, let's see if I can remember this. SEO is to Kicking Lizard. No, Monkey something. Yeah. I'm sorry. Go to Facebook. Go to Facebook.com slash eWebStyle. Got you. Yes. I was thinking. I was thinking of the Kicking Lizard. SEO is to Talking Monkeys something. As Kicking Lizard. Yeah. It was funny. Go to our Facebook page. Check that out. And also hit us up on our Facebook page. Okay, so I debated putting a tattoo on, because we have this long list that we're going through for all the international reviews that we received on iTunes. So if you set your iTunes to UK, if you set it to Australia, if you set it to New Zealand, if there's different reviews for our podcast out there, and we're kind of going through those. And there

was no new podcast in the US. So come on, Americans. Yeah. Let me get a review out there. Yeah. It's pretty quick. It's not that hard. Three steps. Go to iTunes, sign up for an account, post a review. Yep. It's not hard. And if you want to, one more step, send an email to podcast at e-webstile.com. And let us know that you submitted the review, and we'll read it on air and give you a little bit of link love and a punch in the face, which if you don't know is a good thing. All right. So here is one review of our podcast. Quality info, and these guys don't preach. And this is from FirstPagesSydney, excuse me, FirstPagesSydney.com. It reads, great podcast for all levels of SEO. That's pretty cool. These guys know their stuff, but don't preach other than don't be a douche. It's not a good look. I like Chris's Seth Rogen laugh. Sometimes it blows the audio levels, and I laugh along like a mental chimp in the car. Back to the monkeys, chimp, we're a monkey show today. We'd like to get the theme as well, but can't work out the song with Shazam. By the way, the song, the theme song is Goldmine. It's by a cat who's a friend of mine, and his band has circled a cat, and they've disbanded. So hit me up. I can see if I can try and, a couple people have, and I've been a little lax about getting back to them. I can see if I can get you, I don't know, maybe it's got some CDs you can buy somewhere. We'll find the MP3 somewhere. He says, keep it up, guys, with the most popular SEO podcast on iTunes. That's Marae Stewart in Sydney, Australia. Punch in the face to you. Appreciate you listening. Appreciate you. Maybe you're watching. Boys on iTunes are probably listening. So just thanks. Appreciate the support, and hit us up. The next one, title is SEO Rap from Texas. I wonder who they're talking about there.

It's what's up, sport? Always good, entertaining content. Easy to listen to relevant subject matter, interspersed with irreverent humor. I like that. That's good. Not so sure about the punch in the face references, but I guess Texas is full of cowboys, and all those steroids in the beef are percolating up through the food train. Okay. Yeah. So, um... Apparently, it's a steroid-infused punch in the face to you. Yeah. Yeah. Punch in the face is good. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. This is, uh... What's up, sports? This is the... Sport. It's the equivalent to a shout-out, for those that don't know. Um... But I'd rather, instead of screaming at you, I'd rather punch you in the face. Yeah. It seems so more intimate. And it's even more intimate if you go watch the slow-motion pictures of people getting punched in the face. It's hilarious. I might have to go repost it. Yeah. Just for fun. All right. So, in the last two podcasts, we've actually covered PPC marketing, and actually, we're cutting out video segments in our podcast. So, we're creating the video segments that we're going to put on our webpage, our pay-per-click page. The last one was actually our SEO page, and this one, we're going to do our social media page. So, then, again, for our listeners, regular listeners, this is a behind-the-scenes. It's going to cover some basics about how we approach social media marketing. We're going to use this video. You will see it on our website shortly, and shortly, I don't know. What shortly means by this summer. Yeah. I mean, to be honest. Yeah. By the time we finish design, finish rewriting content, and go through production, and yeah. Yeah. It'll be that long. So, we'll take a very brief break so that we have a good place to cut, and then we'll start off with that segment that is going to be the video for our social media marketing page. So, thank you guys, and bear with us. Hi, and welcome to our social media marketing page. My

name is Chris Burris. I'm the owner of eWebStyle. I am Charles Lewis, your internet marketing specialist. Today, we're going to talk about social media marketing. First, welcome to our social media marketing page. You're probably wondering, or maybe you're not since you're here. We're going to cover it anyway. What is social media marketing, and why should you be doing it? Yeah. Fundamentally, social media marketing is a number of products that are available on the web. The most predominant are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. There's YouTube, Google Plus, Tumblr. There's a ton of them out there. We really tend to focus on a handful. Charles is going to talk about that in a second. Social media marketing is a way for you to interact and engage your customers regularly, again, in a more interactive way. It's about customer retention. It's also about word of mouth, taking advantage of word of mouth marketing, except in this case, it's word of internet marketing, if you will. Yeah. To me, social media is really a digital word of mouth, if you will. Exactly. It's the same concept that people give them referrals and sharing news face-to-face. Instead, they do it click-to-click. Why should you be doing social media marketing? Well, one of the reasons is you end up with a Twitter page. You end up with a Facebook page. You end up with a LinkedIn account. Those are all ways that Google can find you. The reality is the more ways Google can find you, the more likely people are going to find you. That's the very first reason you should be doing it. The next are some interesting statistics out there. It says about 71% of the current web audience actually has a Facebook account. That's 71% of the audience. It also says that people spend about 33 minutes a day on Facebook and about 10 minutes a day on Google. So Facebook, as a lead example, is a great place to actually start your social media marketing. Those are the reasons you really should be doing social media marketing. Charles

is going to talk a little bit about how we do social media marketing here at eWebStyle. Yeah, our social media marketing campaigns are created, first off, unique to each client. What we want to do is make sure we understand what you offer, how you offer it, and really how you make money and what your goal is. For example, if you're selling products, then it may be your goal to get as much product exposure as you can. Figure out ways for people to share those products. Figure out ways that those products can be featured in other places. Maybe you're a new company and you're focusing on branding. Then products may not be what you're focusing on. Instead, you need your name out there. You need people to see your name. You need people to learn your name. You need people to gravitate towards your name. Or you may provide a service. Let's say you're a plumber or a carpenter or something like that. And that way, you need to orbit a roofer or maybe do exteriors. And so maybe you need to show pictures of the different types of work you've done. And a great way to use social media to do that would be to show those pictures and associate them with the people, the actual clients you had. And so part of our process is determining what you offer, what you need to do, and how social media can work for you. Once we figure that out, then we determine which profiles and platforms would work best for you. Again, if you need a lot of pictures, then Facebook is going to be key, probably for all of them, frankly, because 71% of people are on Facebook. But you may need a new one, a Pinterest account, things like that. You definitely will need a Twitter, so you can start twit-picking stuff on the fly while you're out and about providing services. Let's say you're selling products. Then one of the things we like to do is maybe tie in the fact that people

can share your products during the checkout process. If we've built that site and you're doing a social campaign with us, then we'll be sure to make the sharing option of your products through Facebook or letting people plus one them through Google Plus as part of your process. So it really depends on, again, what you're doing. If you're branding, let's say you're a new company, right, and you need to get your name out there. Then we may focus on LinkedIn, so we can get you a LinkedIn account up. We can make sure that all of your key employees have pages and are associated with that page. So that way, people who may have some sort of a name recognition can be found online and be associated with your business. We actually take things a step further. And for the sake of branding, if you have a Twitter page or a Facebook fan page and things like that that may require some sort of a unique consensus, yes, we definitely want to make sure that they're all consistent. The Facebook page has the same color scheme, same logos as your website. Website, the landing pages and all of the other social platforms that you have resemble each other. So that way, there's a consistent look and feel across the board. It's our goal to make sure to be social for you. Frankly, most people create a profile and they don't be social. And so they end up with a profile and nothing more, nothing that doesn't function. Well, that's exactly, you know, one of the reasons to have a social media campaign or actually just a social media account is because it can help you get found. And then the very next thing that is supposed to happen is you're supposed to be social. And what we found is, is that a lot of owners, we can, you know, at first we would help them set up their Facebook account, their Twitter account, maybe even their LinkedIn account. And then, you know, they're saying initially they're excited

and gung-ho. Oh yeah, I'm going to be very social and I can, you know, add photos of a new client. And we find business owners don't have time. In order to take advantage of a social media campaign, you've got to be social. And if you're a business owner and you don't have time to do it, you need to find somebody else who can, you either need to hire somebody internally, which can be risky, or you need to find a company such as eWebStyle to help you out with that process. Definitely, because hiring someone internally, you know, could create additional costs that frankly may be more than our social media package. I can guarantee it's more than our social media package. And so, you know, you definitely need to consider all of those things. Some of the other things we do is we understand how social media affects your SEO results. You know, we specialize in SEO here as well. And, you know, we tend to keep them separate because at the end of the day, there are separate things. We can do SEO to help your site, but you need social. And so we really push social, not for additional revenue, frankly, but because you need it. And especially with things like YouTube, if you provide videos or you need access to videos, videos help with your SEO. You know, if you're on Google Plus and we're generating plus ones and people adding you to that circle and plus one on your page, that's going to help with your SEO. And so we tend to make sure that whatever social media marketing campaign that we develop, not only is it unique to you, but it also enforces and helps our SEO overall game plan. Excellent. Well, I think this is a good brief synopsis of what is social media, why you need to be doing it, and kind of our general approach to social media. So why don't you just pick up the phone? The phone number is right there at the top of the

screen. Give us a call and we'll help you today. Thank you. All right. So that has been kind of a behind the scenes look. That is the video we're going to be putting on our website. As you guys know, we don't believe in editing yet. As we grow as a company and as our podcast listenership expands, we'll probably spend a little, we might spend a little more time on that. Who knows? Probably not. But so when we get our website live, go ahead and check it out. See if you remember this podcast and see how it actually looks on our website. Is that it? Is that, I think that's it. That's all we got today. Yeah, it's just blank stare that you don't have blank stare. All right. Thank you guys so much for listening. You have made us the most popular SEO podcast on the planet. That is you, you, you over there in South Africa, you over there in Australia, you over there in Peru, Chile, Colombia, Brazil. Yeah. So thank you guys for listening. And remember, go ahead and submit a review. You can actually go, if you don't want to do iTunes, and we understand that. If there's some people who are Android fanatics or something nicer. Yeah, they're against Apple, right? Yeah. Yeah, go to Google. Matter of fact, go to ewebstyle.com slash SEO podcast. On that page, you will see right below the video you're hopefully watching right now, there's a link to our Google Places page. Click that link, and give us a Google review. Yeah, that would be great. Thank you guys for turning in. Until the next time, my name's Chris Burris. I am Charles Lewis. Bye-bye for now.
