Email marketing works best when subject lines are short, lists are segmented and clean, campaigns are mobile-optimized, and emails are sent Tuesday through Thursday between 1 and 3 p.m. for highest open rates.
the inbox is still the most visited place on the internet
Marketing is all about testing and trying to find a strategy that leads to success. You can’t talk about conversions when your emails aren’t being opened. If you’re encountering a low open rate, test and try these strategies to improve your deliverability and increase open rates.
According to the episode, Tuesdays through Thursdays between 1 and 3 p.m. are the optimal times to send marketing emails. The hosts also suggest checking your own website analytics for the day and time you had the most conversions and using that as a starting point for your send schedule.
Segmentation lets you send the most relevant message to the right subset of your subscribers. For example, you should send a different message to existing customers than to prospects, and you might segment by age or product interest. The hosts say segmentation is extremely important and you must test it to get real value.
The episode says you should update and keep your list fresh on an ongoing basis. A clean list improves deliverability and saves time and resources spent crafting emails. After cleaning, your list may feel depressingly small, but the hosts advise not to be discouraged and to focus on growing a quality list.
Very important. The episode cites a Constant Contact study showing mobile devices account for 51% of all emails opened. Over 75% of subscribers will delete an email they cannot read on mobile. The hosts recommend a mobile-first approach, including linked phone numbers, prominent social icons, and easy app-download links.
