Email marketing campaigns fail due to nine common mistakes including mailing from personal accounts, skipping permission, bad email lists, poor landing pages, and missing consistent calls to action.
the email inbox is still the most visited place on the Internet
Welcome to another thrilling episode with your hosts Chris and Charles! Here are 9 Email Marketing mistakes you should avoid!
Mailing from a personal Gmail, Yahoo, or AOL account is described as unprofessional and harmful to deliverability. A domain-based address such as info@yourdomain.com increases open rates and sender credibility, and established email providers understand the ins and outs of email deliverability.
Sending the same message to everyone on your list ignores the fact that subscribers have different needs. Segmenting your list so each group receives relevant content produces higher engagement. A generic list is acceptable for broad updates, but targeted segments should be used for leads, clients, and sales campaigns.
If a landing page has an unappealing design, an unclear offer, or unhelpful content, conversion rates will suffer. The landing page should mirror the email's subject line, visuals, and messaging so visitors experience continuity from click to page, which lowers bounce rates and increases conversions.
Each email should have one clear, focused call to action. Including multiple competing calls to action confuses recipients. Secondary links, such as a blog post reference, should be kept small and unobtrusive so they do not pull attention away from the primary action you want the reader to take.
