Create a sitemap and set up a Google Webmaster Tools account, then submit your sitemap there. You can also get links from highly trafficked social bookmarking sites like Stumble Upon, Delicious, or Digg, which both help indexing and drive traffic to the site.
Only if they are genuinely useful and relevant. Generic complimentary comments are recognized as spam and get deleted. Comments that add real value to the discussion are more likely to be approved, earning a legitimate outbound link from that blog.
The hosts say it is better to do it for speed, even though Google, Bing, and Yahoo eventually share information and will find each other's indexed sites. Once you have set up Google Webmaster Tools, adding Bing and Yahoo takes little extra effort.
Link baiting, as described in this episode, means writing a genuinely valuable review or comment on a relevant blog or podcast, then letting the site owner know about it and asking them to reference your website, earning you a backlink in return.
You could get a link from Google's homepage. And if we knew how to do that, they wouldn't be calling us more.
