SEO keyword prioritization requires evaluating eight factors including search demand, user intent, competition, budget, time frame, goals, profitability, and scalability before choosing which keywords to target.
What you don't want to do is rank, spend a lot of time on keywords and PPC campaigns and SEO strategies to rank for words that just have a low revenue generation where they bring in a lot of traffic, but they don't bring in dollars.

According to the episode, the eight factors from Ken Lyons' article on Search Engine Watch are search demand, user intent, keyword competition, budget, time frame, your goals, profitability, and scalability. Each factor should shape which keywords you choose for both SEO and PPC campaigns.
User intent determines where a searcher falls in your marketing funnel. For example, someone searching 'life insurance' is likely just researching, while someone searching 'term life insurance quote' is ready for a quote form. Matching keywords to intent improves the chance visitors complete your desired action.
In SEO, budget covers the resources needed to rank, including content writing, social activity, and staff time. Competing against large brands in tough markets like insurance requires significant resource investment, so budget should guide which keywords are realistically worth targeting.
The hosts said link building must be very strategic. Keyword-rich anchor text links are no longer effective, and guest blogging purely for links was flagged by Matt Cutts. They recommended branded company name links and publishing high-value content that earns natural links instead.
Somebody searching life insurance is clearly just researching, probably gathering information. Somebody searching for term life insurance quote knows the type of life insurance they want and they need a quote.

Long gone are those link building days full of keyword rich anchor text. You know, like you better not go out and generate a whole bunch of links using the anchor text life insurance. You will never rank for that.
